M.N.: And how about the role of Germany, among the other players, Mr. Turley? At least, you were able to consider some multiple choice questions. Thank you. Me thinks, humbly, that it is reasonable to admit the possibility of the New Abwehr's sophisticated games, too. And this may be the most "paradigmatically encompassing", so to speak. And very, very realistic. Quite a "Dusseldorf Karneval", isn't it? 2.21.19 ________________________________________________

The news that special counsel Robert Mueller may complete his work as early as next week has sent Washington into what Victorian women called “vapors.” For Republicans, the fear is that the report will build a case for criminal conduct that could be the basis for an indictment later but an impeachment now. For Democrats, the fear is that the report will fall short of delivering on proof of Russian collusion. The anticipation of the report was heightened by the shocking statement by former FBI Acting Director Andrew McCabe that President Donald Trump could be a “Russian asset.”
In this twilight moment, the mind races in anticipation. Yet, the most fascinating element may not be the role of Russia but the role of Ukraine. To be sure, Russia occupies part of Ukraine, wants sanctions lifted over its occupation of Crimea, and works through Russian interests in that country. Russia was open about its desire to address those sanctions imposed by Congress, and it reached out to Republicans and Democrats. There is nothing wrong or untoward in such an effort. Likewise, there was nothing wrong with former national security adviser Michael Flynn discussing sanctions with Russian diplomats as part of the transition. The crime was his lying about those conversations.
Russia may have preferred Trump to Hillary Clinton. Indeed, it may have viewed his election as wickedly destabilizing for the United States and its allies. Yet, that could well be the extent of the purpose of the operation. What is remarkable, however, is how all investigative roads seem to lead to Kiev, not Moscow, in terms of key figures. It raises the question of whether Russian hacking efforts in the American presidential election were little more than what they seem as a ham handed leak and trolling operation.
So far we have seen no direct connection between the Russians and the Trump campaign as part of a conspiracy to hack the computer systems of the Democrats. What we do have is a lot of connections to Ukrainians, along with a lot of money. When the FBI pulled back the curtain from the sordid dealings of former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, they found Ukrainians aplenty. Manafort was connected to Ukrainian politician Serhiy Lyovochkin and oligarch Rinat Akhmetov, among others, and received at least $60 million for his work. While some of these individualswere in favor of Russia, their primary interest was to maintain their power and profits in Ukraine. Manafort struggled to satisfy them even as his connections drew attention and, ultimately, resulted in his being dismissed from the Trump campaign.
The special counsel recently persuaded a federal judge to toss out the cooperating witness agreement with Manafort. Why? Because Manafort allegedly lied about meeting and sharing polling data with Konstantin Kilimnik, a Ukrainian oligarch with reported ties to Russian intelligence. A second alleged undisclosed incident involved meeting Kilimnik in 2016 to discuss a possible Ukrainian peace plan. Mueller told a federal court that Manafort continued working for Ukrainian interests even after he was indicted, and documented wire transfers of millions from Lyovochkin and Akhmetov.
Manafort worked primarily for the interests of notorious former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, who was responsible for towering corruption, alleged murders of protesters, and arrests of political opponents. Before Yanukovych fled to Russia, he accumulated a reported estimated net worth of $12 billion. His flight was why Manafort became desperate for money and reached out to Trump for the campaign job. Manafort associate Rick Gates, now a cooperating federal witness, told friends that in every Ukrainian ministry, Manafort “has a guy” and referred to his work as a “shadow government.”
One of the most interesting disclosures from the Flynn investigation was a meeting in New York with Ukrainian politician Andrey Artemenko, Trump lawyer Michael Cohen, and Trump business associate Felix Sater. Shortly before Flynn resigned, these figures were working on a deal in which sanctions against Russia would be lifted in exchange for Russia leasing Crimea for 100 years while recognizing Ukrainian sovereignty over that region.Cohen is tied to Ukraine in other ways. He was introduced to Trump by his father in law, Fima Shusterman, a naturalized American citizen from Ukraine. Cohen ran a taxi medallion business with his partner, the “taxi king” Simon Garber, who was born in Ukraine.
United States attorneys for the Southern District of New York opposed leniency for Cohen because they believe he withheld evidence of criminal conduct. Notably, the Southern District of New York was not investigating the Russian conspiracy. It was investigating the myriad criminal dealings of Cohen, including the taxi business set up by Shusterman. Trump and his counsel, Rudy Giuliani, have suggested that Cohen is protecting his father in law, and Giuliani alleged that Shusterman “may have ties to something called organized crime” in the Ukraine.
Previously, Shusterman was criminally charged over moving at least $20 million into Chicago to help finance his taxi operation. He would plead guilty to a single criminal count in the investigation, which raised issues of possible money laundering and tax evasion. The recipient of the money were two business people born in Ukraine who were identified in the FBI search warrant leading to the raid on Cohen’s office.
Cohen’s brother, Bryan Cohen, also has connections to this world of Ukrainian expats and oligarchs. Remember that meeting arranged with Ukrainians to get a deal on Crimea? The motivating force reportedly was Alex Oronov, a naturalized American who ran a huge business in his native Ukraine. Bryan Cohen worked for Oronov and married his daughter. In 2016, Bryan Cohen still reportedly worked for the Ukrainian company, Grain Alliance, which paid at least $7 million into an limited liability company registered at Cohen’s home. Oronov died not long after the backroom dealings were made public.
Other collateral figures with Ukrainian connections, at least two Democratic insiders and one Republican, have come up in the special counsel filings. At least two large public affairs firms were allegedly paid by the European Center for a Modern Ukraine to help its government that supported Russia. They were referenced as “Company A” and “Company B” in the indictments of Manafort and Gates last fall.
These Ukrainian connections continued into the inauguration of Trump. Mueller investigated roughly a dozen Ukrainians who came to Washington to promote a peace deal with Russia, as well as multiple Ukrainians who attended the inaugural festivities. This also included an investigation into whether “illegal foreign lobbying related to Ukraine” occurred and Ukrainian agents “used straw donors to disguise donations to the inaugural committee.” With all of these figures weaving their ways through the investigation, we could find Mueller discovering more evidence of Ukrainian collusion rather than Russian collusion.

An ex-cop from Philadelphia was just arrested on allegations that he sexually assaulted several male witnesses and suspects over the course of his decade-plus career as a detective.
A 38-page, 35-count grand jury presentment against Philip Nordo includes multiple counts of rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, sexual assault and misconduct, intimidation, and theft of city funds.
52-year-old Nordo was fired in 2017 amid allegations that he funneled money into an imprisoned witness’ commissary account and that he maintained inappropriate relationships with people connected to criminal investigations.
But a deeper investigation into the matter revealed Nordo was up to much more than just fraternizing with suspects and witnesses.
<a href="http://Philly.com" rel="nofollow">Philly.com</a> reports:
The grand jury found that Nordo “repeatedly contacted young men that he sought to groom,” and used threats and flattery to “make the targets of his advances more susceptible to his sexually assaultive and/or coercive behavior.” Prosecutors said Nordo’s tactics included threatening to arrest or jail suspects without probable cause, fraudulently steering reward money their way, and projecting his dominance–sometimes by displaying his firearm, other times by targeting handcuffed prisoners.
Most of the alleged abuse happened inside interrogation rooms or prison visiting rooms.
ABC 6 reports:
One victim reported in 2005 when he was arrested, Nordo goaded him into masturbating in an interrogation room, alleging the detective kissed him during the encounter, according to the report.
That victim reported the incident to jail employees, but it was unclear from the report whether any disciplinary action was taken. The grand jury report noted the victim has since died in a homicide and the case has not been solved.
According to the heavily redacted grand jury document, Nordo would frequently “use small talk” to make his victims feel comfortable before ultimately turning the conversations to sex.
The Washington Post reports:
He would allegedly make inappropriate comments about the men’s genitals before assaulting them, preferring to target men in handcuffs or leg shackles so that “his dominating position reduced the individuals’ ability to resist or report the assault,” the document says.
In recorded phone calls, he would talk about having sex with the men using “code words,” the document alleges.
For those who cooperated, Nordo rewarded them with gift cards or deposited money into their inmate accounts, prosecutors said. In some cases, he prevented charges from being formally filed against the man, and in others, he requested leniency from prosecutors or judges.
Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross called Nordo’s alleged behavior “absolutely despicable” and “reprehensible”, but insists he acted alone in his crimes.
“We have been able to determine as part of our investigation both here and the grand jury that no one else is connected to this in any way,” Ross said.
While speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Trump said it was “totally up to Bill ... So whatever the report says, it is highly likely the investigations will ...
Dan Coats may not be the Director of National Intelligence we deserve, but he is the Director we have, and we’re grateful he’s there. Coats is one of the few people left in the Trump Administration who has real experience. However, it’s being widely reported that the top-ranking intelligence official may be on his way out for failing to please his master.
Donald Trump, the self-appointed dictator of the United States, is truly transforming into The Emperor with No Clothes. He only wants to hear his own opinion reflected back to him, instead of the actual truth. Coats may be Trump’s last hope of getting any legitimate advice, but considering Trump does not listen to Coats anyways, he’ll be left shivering in the cold. In fact, it’s certain that Trump’s nakedness is already on display, as his thin-skinned approach has left him prey to every dictator on the planet.
Trump is not playing a team sport; therefore, he does not appreciate incorruptible support staff, and Dan Coats is the latest person in his crosshairs. Coats says he would have advised Trump against a private meeting with Putin, had Trump even consulted him on the matter. Trump, though, would rather listen to Putin.
It’s being reported the Donald spent all weekend at Mar-a-Lago running his mouth to a bunch of old farts in fur coats about how unhappy he is with Dan Coats. Trump would prefer a Director of National Intelligence who does what Trump says, because he can’t comprehend a world of experts who know better than he does. It goes further than that. Trump feels Coats is making him look bad in front of the other dictators, by contradicting him in public.
Three weeks ago, Dan Coats publicly testified he did not agree with Donald Trump’s personal assessment that North Korea is on the road to denuclearization. Coats advised, because that’s his job, that Kim Jong Un’s sovereignty depends too much on the nuclear threat, because it allows him to stay in the illusion of power on the international stage. Therefore, he is not motivated to disarm, but is motivated to “appear” to disarm. Trump, feeling nervous about his upcoming summit with North Korea, is still grumbling that Coats is undermining his relationship with Kim Jong un. The real issue is, why is this sick man, Donald Trump, endorsing Kim Jong un’s agenda, instead of elevating the discourse?

M. N.: The New Abwehr enjoys and employs the deep and intimate connections with the criminal Underworld which go back to the early 1920-s, the conditions after the Germany's defeat in the WW1 and the resulting "Restrictions" (I almost typed "Sanctions") which made the symbiotic and sometimes parasitic relations with Police and Criminals the matter of survival for the Abwehr which based itself at that time at the Military Police Stations. Money Laundering is another, related sub-specialty which was a matter of survival and necessity at that time, and the Abwehr under Canaris (which really is the Abwehr we are talking about) made both areas the traditional historical "fields of excellence". Money Laundering , from Deutsche Bank to Chabad dealers to Oligarchs, e.g. Lev Leviev and others, and most notably by our pretty laundry girls and boys from the Trump-Kushner Crime Family , was and is one of the truly heart felt activities for the Abwehr, and...
