Palmer Report: Robert Mueller is having an amazing day

Special Counsel Robert Mueller has had plenty of good days, arguably just a few bad days, and plenty of days where we haven’t known enough about what was going on behind the scenes to be able to figure out how to categorize them. But today was, undoubtedly, one of the better days that Mueller has had yet.

Remarkably, Robert Mueller didn’t even do anything today, at least not that we know about. Yet he’s spent the past twenty-four hours scoring one victory after another. Matthew Whitaker, who was installed by Donald Trump for the sole purpose of sabotaging Mueller, utterly imploded on the witness stand today in front of live national television cameras – and that was just the half of it.

Whitaker had already failed to stop Mueller when it came to moves like the indictment and arrest of Roger Stone. Now, with just a week left on the job, if Whitaker had been planning any hijinks on his way out the door, today’s debacle surely scared him into thinking twice. It’s also a given that Whitaker’s upcoming replacement, William Barr, was watching intently today. If Barr so much as lifts a finger in Mueller’s direction, he’ll end up facing the same fate that Whitaker faced today.

There are a number of other things going right for Robert Mueller at the moment. Jeff Bezos just handed Mueller’s allies at SDNY new leverage to force David Pecker to more fully sell out Donald Trump and his kids. And if Mueller didn’t already know that Trump, Pecker, and Saudi Arabia have been criminally plotting together, he does now. This day just keeps getting better for Mueller, and it’s still only 8:30pm.

Donald Trump | The Guardian: In fiery face-off, Matthew Whitaker says he has not meddled in Russia inquiry

House Democrats confronted the acting attorney general on his criticism of special counsel in a contentious hearing
The acting attorney general, Matthew Whitaker, said on Friday that he has “not interfered in any way” in the special counsel’s Russia investigation as he faced a contentious congressional hearing in his waning days on the job.
The hearing before the House Judiciary Committee was the first, and likely only, chance for newly empowered Democrats in the majority to grill an attorney general they perceive as a Donald Trump loyalist, and whose appointment they suspect was aimed at suppressing investigations of the Republican president.

Palmer Report: It’s finally Donald Trump’s “Pee Pee Tape” bodyguard Keith Schiller’s time in the barrel

Donald Trump has gone to extraordinary lengths to keep his former longtime personal bodyguard Keith Schiller happy – and well compensated. Trump hired Schiller to a security job in the White House, and after that didn’t work out, Trump had the Republican National Committee hire Schiller for a high paying pretend job. Now Schiller has a whole new problem.

Back in 2017, Keith Schiller testified under oath that when he accompanied Donald Trump to Russia in 2013, the Kremlin offered prostitutes for Trump, but Trump didn’t want them. This stood in direct contrast with the Christopher Steele dossier, which asserts that Trump accepted the prostitutes, and the Kremlin secretly videotaped it all, popularly known as the “Pee Pee Tape.” We still don’t know what the truth is, but we do know that it’s just come to a head.

This week the House Intelligence Committee turned over the transcripts of Schiller’s testimony, along with testimony from several other Trump associates, to Special Counsel Robert Mueller. We don’t know if Schiller told the truth or committed perjury during his testimony. But we do know that at least some of the people involved committed perjury.

So it stands out as notable that, just two days after Robert Mueller got his hands on Keith Schiller’s transcript, the mainstream media is suddenly putting Schiller at the editorial forefront. CNBC is reporting tonight that the RNC is still paying Schiller an obscene amount of money to do nothing. This prompted Rachel Maddow to ask on-air tonight if the payments have been to keep Schiller from telling the truth.

Is it a grand coincidence that the media has suddenly gotten its hands on scandalous new updates about Keith Schiller, just as Robert Mueller has gotten his hands on a transcript that – if perjured – will allow him to arrest Schiller at any minute? Stay tuned, because this could certainly be more than coincidence.

Palmer Report: Another new sealed indictment surfaces out of Robert Mueller’s favorite court

Nine days ago, four sealed items surfaced on the docket in the Washington DC federal court, and it raised a number of eyebrows. This is the court where Robert Mueller does most of his indicting, and it came shortly after Mueller had indicted and arrested Donald Trump’s pal Roger Stone. Now another sealed item has surfaced on the docket, adding to the intrigue.

The four previous sealed items had filing numbers that were grouped together in a manner that suggested to Palmer Report that they were four felony charges against two different people. If those were Robert Mueller’s cases, he’s still sitting on them, possibly because he wanted to tack on more charges before unsealing the incitements and making the arrests. So it’s notable that a fifth sealed item has now surfaced.

The new sealed item is labeled 19-CR-41. That doesn’t tell us much one way or the other about whether it’s connected to the previous items, which were labeled 19-cr-24, 19-cr-25, 19-cr-28, and 19-cr-29. Charges in the same indictment are usually bunched together numerically, but with nine days having passed, the jump all the way from 29 to 41 could simply be a matter of too much time having passed to keep them sequential. So does this mean Mueller is about to arrest someone?

That’s anyone’s guess. There is no proof that these items are even Robert Mueller’s doing. But docket items aren’t generally sealed unless there’s a compelling reason to keep the target’s name out of the public purview, which would fit right in with the kind of sensitive work Mueller is doing. In any case, Mueller hasn’t busted anyone on a weekend. That said, he did arrest Paul Manafort and Rick Gates on a Monday, so it’s worth keeping an eye on what happens after the weekend.
