Is the US Ignoring the Warning Signs From Germany? – theTrumpet.com
Crises in Israel, Secret Nazi plans, political change for Syria, and more

Here are five of the most important news stories this week, as well as relevant links to the full articles and videos here on theTrumpet.com.

In Shadow of Elections, Crises Converge on Israel

While most of Israel’s media is busy debating how last week’s announcement by Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit to indict Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on bribery charges could influence the April 9 election, there is a bevy of immediate security threats converging on the state that would otherwise be headline news.
These threats to Israel inside the West Bank and on the Gaza border could seriously affect the outcome of Israel’s vote and events beyond, especially if supercharged by the mass protests that are ready to erupt on the Temple Mount.
As Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry wrote in 2006, specific events in Jerusalem actually act as signposts, by which we can understand where we are in the timeline of biblical prophecy. He specifically noted how Israeli-Palestinian tensions boiling over on the Temple Mount is one of the first signposts that announces we are on a countdown to the coming of the Messiah. “It seems the Palestinians could get East Jerusalem, minus the Temple Mount, without a fight,” he wrote. “Zechariah’s prophecy implies that there will be an impasse over the Temple Mount—which the Palestinians ‘resolve’ by taking East Jerusalem by force.”
Whenever crises develop on the Temple Mount between Palestinians and Jews, such as developed this week, it is time to take notice.

Revealed: Nazi Plan to Conquer Latin America

In her new book exposing Nazi Germany’s plan to control Latin America, award-winning reporter Mary Jo McConahay tells the story of Germany’s plan to divide South America into four pro-Nazi territories.
That story validates the late Herbert W. Armstrong’s prediction that Europe and Latin America would again team up against the United States. His Plain Truth magazine stated in May 1962 that “the United States is going to be left out in the cold as two gigantic trade blocs, Europe and Latin America, mesh together and begin calling the shots in world commerce.” That prediction was not a good guess; it was based on Bible prophecy.

Germany Urges Political Change in Syria

The European Union and the Arab League held their first-ever summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, last month. At the summit, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said, “The fate of the European Union also depends on the fate of the states of the Arab League.” In her speech, Merkel addressed the crises in Syria, Lebanon and Yemen, specifically urging the members of the Arab League to support Germany’s effort to bring about political change in Syria.
For years, the Trumpet has predicted that Syria would ally with Germany in the end time. This biblical prophecy is about to be fulfilled.

Kim Jong-un to Visit Vladimir Putin in Russia

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will soon travel to Russia to meet with President Vladimir Putin, according to a March 4 report from Putin’s press secretary.
The announcement come just four days after Kim’s second meeting with United States President Donald Trump ended abruptly in Vietnam after the two sides failed to reach an agreement on denuclearizing North Korea. The collapse of these talks was ridiculed on Russian government-run tv, and now Putin appears eager to pounce on the opportunity to increase his influence with North Korea.
Kim’s upcoming trip to Russia, and his previous visits to China, reveal where North Korea’s support and power originate. And they point to where the greater threat to America lies.

The True History of Charlemagne

There is an apparent contradiction between modern accounts of Charlemagne and what we write in the Trumpet. Apart from our website and magazine, what most people read about Charlemagne highlights the cultural achievements of his reign—not the violence he used to forge his empire.
The true history of Charlemagne is essential knowledge in order to understand Europe’s past, its present and its future. It also makes today’s European news events so much more significant.

Germany is urgently preparing for a break from America—and for a double cross.
Germany’s Munich Security Conference in mid-February displayed the growing rift between Germany and the United States. No topic is currently more urgent in German politics than this divide. But while Germany has made diligent preparations for a post-American world, the U.S. is preoccupied with other issues and even continues to celebrate its perceived German-American friendship.
Since the conference, the German people, media and politicians have been busy visualizing a future without the U.S. “Is Germany’s Most Important Relationship Breaking?” Bild.de asked on February 25. Bild, like many other German news outlets, painted a bleak picture of future relations between the two countries.
But the Munich conference’s negative effect on the other side of the Atlantic was short-lived. Bildreported on February 18:
The Americans have traveled to Germany with a huge delegation to the security conference. But when the summit ended on Sunday, the U.S. media drew an icy balance. …
Even the lack of applause for Vice President Mike Pence (59), as he addressed his listeners with greetings from his boss Donald Trump (72), sloshed across the Atlantic. But the incident attracted little attention, because the Americans were too busy with other Trump gossip.
German commentators are worried by the fact that America is not paying enough attention to this colossal shift in relations.
Germans and Americans have a drastically different view of their relationship. According to a 2018 survey by the Körber Foundation and Pew Research, 73 percent of Germans described relations with the U.S. as “somewhat bad” or “very bad,” but 70 percent of Americans said the relations were “somewhat good” or “very good.”
An Allensbach study published in February found that the majority of German citizens believe that the U.S. poses the greatest threat in global politics. On the other hand, most Americans don’t consider Germany a threat at all.
Germany sees the growing rift and is urgently preparing for the break.
Since President Trump’s inauguration, Germany and the U.S. have had major trade disputes. This has led Germany to increase its cooperation with China, sign a trade deal with Japan, make urgent preparations for another trade deal with Latin America, and increase the difficulty for America’s big business to profit on the Continent.
Germany and the U.S. have also had major disputes concerning Europe’s security policy. Germany has been preparing for a European military and has made major headway in upgrading its own military headquarters, consolidating Europe’s arms industry, and combining Europe’s armies. Germany has also begun to question America’s nuclear umbrella and has openly contemplated producing its own nukes.
How is the U.S. responding to all this?

‘Wunderbar Together’

Preoccupied with bashing President Trump, few notice the widening rift. Many in the Democratic Party believe that they will restore the relationship after the current presidency ends. In the meantime, the U.S. is hosting 1,000 events throughout the 50 states to celebrate the German-American friendship. “The Year of German-American Friendship” is meant to show that the countries stand “Wunderbar Together.” The website states:
From October 2018 until the end of 2019, Germany and its deep ties to the U.S. will be on display all across the United States. The campaign Wunderbar Together (“Deutschlandjahr U.S.A.”/The Year of German-American Friendship) will travel across the entire U.S., bringing with it a collection of events and exhibits revolving around business and industry, politics, education, culture and science, to highlight the unique importance of trans-Atlantic relations.
Unsurprisingly, no corresponding events are being held in Germany.
It is important to note that Wunderbar Together is sponsored by Germany. Concerning the event, Germany’s Foreign Office states:
Germany is organizing a Year of Germany in the U.S.A., knowing that the United States and Germany are Wonderful Together—stronger than friends and partners. … Our friendship with the United States means a lot to us, and we know that many people in America see it the same way. That’s why the people stand this year in the focus of the German-American friendship.
Should America trust these reassuring words when dozens of signs are pointing in the opposite direction?
Bible prophecy warns that America’s allies will turn against it.

A Prophesied Double Cross

Ezekiel 23:9 reads: “Wherefore I have delivered her into the hand of her lovers, into the hand of the Assyrians, upon whom she doted.” Under the subhead “German Double Cross,” Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry writes the following in his booklet Ezekiel: The End-Time Prophet:
Ezekiel 23 explains this heinous double cross. Israel is represented by Aholah, and Judah (separated from Israel at that time) is Aholibah (verse 4). Israel (mainly the U.S. and Britain) and Judah (called Israel today) become lovers to the Assyrians, today’s Germans (verses 5-7, 11-12). God then delivers Israel and Judah into the hands of the Germans (verses 9, 22).
Because modern-day Israel (primarily the U.S. and UK) trusts Assyria more than it trusts God, God will allow its punishment to come by way of its lovers. Concerning a parallel prophecy in Hosea, Mr. Flurry notes:
It will not be the enemies of Britain and America that discover their lewdness—but their lovers, such as Assyria.
Britain and America are increasingly aligning themselves with Germany (modern Assyria), and it will be to our downfall—because God is going to bring it about. There will be no more mirth or happiness in our lands.
Isaiah 10:5 refers to Germany as the rod of God’s anger and the staff of His indignation. God is angry with the sins that Israel is committing, and He is sending punishment.
The Trumpet and its predecessor, the Plain Truth, have repeatedly warned about this coming betrayal. But America and Britain refuse to repent and turn to God. Soon, they will face their punishment.
Yet one day, America and Germany will live Wunderbar Together. The Bible is full of wonderful prophecies that speak of the coming reconciliation between Germany and Israel. Isaiah 19 prophesies of a future cooperation between Assyria, Israel and Egypt (verses 23-24). But before that can happen, severe punishment will engulf the world. Request your free copy of Ezekiel: The End-Time Prophet to learn more about these prophecies and the wonderful future they ultimately lead to.

Rep. Nadler, who has fought Trump before, now wields a big gavel

While a state Assemblyman in the 1980s, Jerry Nadler first tangled with developer Donald Trump over a planned project at the site of the old Penn rail yards.
Trump was looking to build the tallest structure in the United States along with a TV studio, shopping mall, private park and whatever else.
Just like Long Islanders who once opposed his catering-hall plan for Jones Beach, Manhattan activists organized against it, Nadler included.
With Nadler in Congress by the 1990s, the president-to-be was still trying to get federal help for his construction plans, and the then-rotund representative fought the necessary highway changes to get Riverside South built.
"Fat Jerry Nadler is doing me a favor. He's too stupid to realize it. He's making me a lot of money," Trump was quoted in New York magazine as saying, displaying the same kind of class and subtlety he brought to the White House 20 years later.
With the help of gastric bypass surgery, Democrat Nadler, now 71, dropped much of the weight by 2001. His new battle, with the GOP president, looms way larger than the old municipal wars.
Last November's party turnover in Congress made him Judiciary Committee chairman. So the stage was well set when the committee sent 81 document-request letters to both public and private associates of Trump, a wide net that could lead to impeachment proceedings, depending, of course, on what is discovered and when.
"It's very clear that the president obstructed justice," Nadler said in a recent televised interview. "It's very clear, 1,100 times he referred to the Mueller investigation as a witch hunt.
"He tried to protect Flynn from being investigated by the FBI. He fired Comey in order to stop the 'Russian thing,' as he told NBC News ... He's intimidated witnesses. In public."
A liberal partisan? Surely. Back in the day he called the impeachment of President Bill Clinton a "partisan railroad job."
On Dec. 18, 1998 Nadler talked about it on the House floor in terms that the GOP may at some point try to throw back at him.
"The nation’s leading scholars and historians overwhelmingly agree that impeachment is reserved under the Constitution only for abuses of presidential power that undermine the structure of functioning of government or of constitutional liberty," Nadler said at the time.
"It is not intended as a punishment for crimes but as a protection against the president who would abuse his powers to make himself a tyrant. That is why Benjamin Franklin called impeachment a substitute for assassination."
Naturally, Nadler now increases in stature as a Republican target. He seemed unfazed last month when Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker, appearing before the committee, sidestepped a question and taunted the chairman: "I see that your five minutes is up."
Nadler laughed lightly and then pursued the question, which involved the degree to which Whitaker communicated with Special Counsel Robert Mueller's office. Whitaker ultimately insisted "I have not interfered in any way" with that probe.
For his part, an agitated Trump last week tweeted a message that sounded way less composed than the "Fat Jerry" attack of 24 years ago.
"Nadler, (Rep. Adam) Schiff and the Dem heads of the Committees have gone stone cold CRAZY. 81 letter sent to innocent people to harass them. They won’t get ANYTHING done for our Country!”
Thus the dialogue, if that's the right term, resumes.

Robert Mueller Is Prepared To Drop A ‘Collusion Bomb’ On The White House, Former Prosecutor Says

There has not yet been any public evidence that Donald Trump directly colluded with Russia during the 2016 presidential campaign, but that will soon change, a former prosecutor predicts.
In an interview on MSNBC this weekend, Glenn Kirschner said that special counsel Robert Mueller is getting ready to drop a “collusion bomb” on the White House that offers direct evidence of contact with Russia during the campaign. Kirschner said his experience as a prosecutor and a deep dive into public documents related to the Russia investigation shows him that something big is on the way. That would likely mean that the end of the Russia investigation is near, with legal experts saying it is likely Mueller will save any revelations about Trump himself until the report is complete.
“Everybody has confused Mueller’s silence on the question of conspiracy and collusion with an absence of evidence of conspiracy,” Kirschner said, via Politicus USA. “The collusion bomb is coming.”
Kirschner added that the evidence points him to believe there was a conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russia, and believes Mueller has been intentionally slow-walking the investigation so the evidence isn’t released until exactly when he wants it to be made public.
“The collusion bomb is coming and you know what? Mueller is so strategic in what he’s doing, I don’t think he wanted to tip his hands on collusion,” he said. “I don’t think he wanted to, for example, indict one of the president’s children for some of the crimes they committed because that may have resulted in Trump trying to shut things down.”
While there have been a number of indictments and now convictions in the Russia investigation, they so far have been related to financial fraud in the case of Paul Manafort and lying to investigators or Congress for Michael Flynn and Michael Cohen.
Americans may never be able to see the full findings from the Mueller probe, Reuters noted. Republican Congressman Doug Collins that he expects any effort by Democrats to release the full Russia report to end up in court — unless Mueller finds evidence that the Trump campaign colluded directly with Russia. Collins noted that, so far, there hasn’t been any evidence to suggest that there was direct collusion.
“We do not believe there’s going to be collusion,” Collins said. “There’s no more indictments coming from this that we’ve seen so far.”
Donald Trump has maintained that his campaign did not collude with Russia, saying that Mueller’s investigation is a politically motivated “witch hunt.”

Just how far down the Trump-Russia rabbit hole did the CIA go?

“There’s gold dust in the chicken feed.” This is paraphrased from a LeCarré novel. It’s an old spy term that has now gone the way of satire, but it’s still applicable to Trump & Co. We’re all wondering if Jarvanka is selling us out, one patent, one state secret, at a time. The Chinese are reportedly partying at Mar-a-Lago like it’s 1999, and every Republican I can name seems to have taken a smiling picture with the “spa founder” from Jupiter, FL. You know, the one whose former massage parlors are accused of sex trafficking, and who specialized in bringing over Chinese executives to influence our figurehead – our prez who has gone viral with the Dunning-Kruger effect.

With talk that the Saudis, the Chinese and the Russians get the presidential daily briefing before our president does, another phrase comes to mind: With friends like these… So are we doomed? I highly suspect not. Because there’s gold dust in the chicken feed. Chicken feed is defined by the Spy Museum as, “Genuine, but not seriously damaging, intelligence knowingly provided to an enemy intelligence agency through an agent or a double agent to establish his bona fides.”

The intelligence community suspected Trump’s traitorous ties before he was elected. FISA warrants and our real friends abroad have been supplying intelligence since way before he became a serious candidate. Once the election was over and the Russian influence became crystal clear, there was only one thing to do. Put gold dust in the chicken feed.

We’re all getting impatient. The daily horror show just gets worse and worse till we’re almost numb to outrage anymore. I don’t know how much gold chickens***t we’ll ever be privy to, but I absolutely know it’s been put into the line. There’s a lot of talk of deza these days, the shortened Russian term for disinformation. This is essentially what the CIA does. It has departments and departments of chicken feed operations, and no, Mike Pompeo didn’t have the time to stop them all. If the FBI started looking into Trump before the election, I think it’s safe to conclude they had the CIA point out all their glittering “deposits.” This is the reason we don’t have action yet. Mueller is too busy with the gold rush.

Robert Mueller Has Raised Big Trump-Russia Questions. Will His Report Answer Them? – Mother Jones

Pete Marovich/ZUMA
Looking for news you can trust?

The anticipation for special counsel Robert Mueller’s final report has reached a fever pitch. When is it coming? What will it say? Will it be made public? Will President Donald Trump’s new attorney general, William Barr, suppress it? If so, will House Democrats subpoena it?
And all this hubbub is about a report that may or may not contain new and revelatory information. Lost in much of the speculation is the fact that Mueller has no obligation to produce a report that details all he has uncovered. He might merely forward to Barr a narrow and short memo explaining his prosecutorial decisions…and case closed. There is no telling whether Mueller will answer the big questions: Did anyone on the Trump campaign cooperate or communicate with Russia about its attack on the 2016 election? Why did Trump and his aides echo the Kremlin’s disinformation campaign of denial? Did the Trump camp directly signal to Moscow that it appreciated Russia’s assault on American democracy? Was anything else afoot?
Yet throughout his investigation, Mueller, through indictments and other court filings, has released significant information about interactions between Trumpland and Russians—often without supplying complete accounts. Consequently, Mueller has interjected into the public record a host of tantalizing questions about Trump-Russia collusion and related matters. And this raises another query about his final report, whatever it may be: Will Mueller answer the questions he himself has generated?
Here are some key revelations that Mueller has already produced that warrant further explanation:
In Mueller’s indictment of Roger Stone, a longtime informal adviser of Trump, he reported a fact that drew much attention:
After the July 22, 2016 release of stolen [Democratic National Committee] emails by [WikiLeaks], a senior Trump Campaign official was directed to contact STONE about any additional releases and what other damaging information [WikiLeaks] had regarding the Clinton Campaign.
The indictment did not identify the senior Trump campaign official who was told to instruct Stone to make contact with WikiLeaks. And more importantly, Mueller has not revealed who directed this senior Trump campaign official to do so. Obviously, it would have to be someone high up in the Trump hierarchy, raising the prospect that this person might well be Trump himself. Yet Mueller has chosen to keep this individual’s identity a secret—so the public doesn’t know if Trump or someone close to him made an effort to reach out secretly to WikiLeaks when that outfit was disseminating material stolen by Russian hackers as part of a covert operation to boost Trump’s campaign.
There’s another big mystery contained in Mueller’s Stone indictment. According to Mueller’s prosecutors, Stone lied to Congress and concealed one of his efforts to interact with WikiLeaks during the 2016 campaign. The indictment noted that around the time that the unnamed person was directing a top Trump campaign official to tell Stone to reach out to WikiLeaks, Stone used Jerome Corsi, a right-wing conspiracy peddler, to try to make contact with Julian Assange, the head of WikiLeaks. After the election, when Congress was investigating the Russian intervention, Stone told the House intelligence committee that he had no emails or text messages related to WikiLeaks and the hacks. He also informed the committee that he had only learned about WikiLeaks’ plans through an intermediary he later identified as Randy Credico, a New York radio host and comedian. But, as the indictment asserted, Stone possessed messages between himself and Corsi that show he had used Corsi to contact WikiLeaks. This prompts the obvious question: Why did Stone disclose his interactions with Credico but allegedly lie to hide those with Corsi? What was Stone covering up?
Much of Mueller’s investigation of Trump’s felonious former campaign chair focused on Manafort’s wheeling-and-dealing in Ukraine that involved tax evasion, money laundering, and illegal lobbying in the United States for a Putin-friendly Ukrainian political party. But the Manafort case also included an examination of his relationship with Konstantin Kilimnik, Manafort’s onetime business colleague whom Mueller identified as an alleged associate of Russian intelligence. (Kilimnik was indicted for collaborating with Manafort to obstruct justice and tamper with witnesses.) And Mueller’s team discovered that Manafort was in cahoots with Kilimnik during the 2016 campaign.
In early August 2016, Manafort, according to Mueller’s investigation, took time away from his duties as Trump’s campaign manager to meet with Kilimnik at an upscale New York City cigar bar. Filings in the Manafort case strongly suggested that this meeting took place at the behest of Oleg Deripaska, a Russian oligarch close to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s regime and a former business associate of Manafort (and whom Manafort at one point apparently owed millions of dollars). At this meeting, Manafort shared Trump campaign polling data, including private information, with Kilimnik. The New York Times reported that this data was shared with two Ukrainian oligarchs. But what did those oligarchs do with it? Did Kilimink provide this data to anyone else? Mueller’s crew has not said.
Perhaps more importantly, during this get-together, Manafort and Kilimnik discussed a supposed peace plan for Ukraine that likely would have been beneficial for Moscow—and that could have led to the lifting of harsh sanctions that the Obama administration and the European Union had imposed on Russia following its intervention in Ukraine. This meeting smacks of collusion: Trump’s top campaign official discussing a pro-Moscow plan with an alleged Russian intelligence asset (sent to New York by an oligarch) at the same time that Putin is mounting an operation within the United States to boost Trump’s chances. Was there any explicit talk of a quid pro quo? Was Manafort signaling to Russia that the Trump crew was fine with the Kremlin’s assault on the US election? There is much more that Americans deserve to know about this episode, and Mueller’s filings to date leave them hanging. (Mueller could also clarify Kilimnik’s relationship with Russian intelligence. His filings have noted that the FBI concluded that Kilimink has ties to Russian intelligence, but can more be revealed about a foreigner who colluded with Manafort as he guided Trump’s presidential campaign?) After Manafort was sentenced Thursday to nearly four years in prison for one set of his crimes, his attorney declared that he had never colluded with any “government official from Russia.” Neither Kilimnik nor Deripaska would qualify as a Russian official.
This underexperienced Trump campaign foreign policy adviser pleaded guilty to making false statements to the FBI about his efforts to hook up the campaign with the Russian government. Mueller’s filing describing Papadopoulos’ offense reads like a spy thriller, with the young Trump consultant meeting with a mysterious professor and other Russian cutouts in pursuit of forging contacts with Moscow. It famously noted that during one meeting in April 2016, the professor told Papadopoulos that the Russians had “dirt” on Clinton in the form of “thousands of emails.” By this point, Russian hackers had broken into the Democratic Party network and also had stolen tens of thousands of emails from John Podesta, the chair of the Clinton campaign. But these penetrations were not yet known to the public. One big question is, who on the campaign, if anyone, did Papadopoulos tell about the Russians possessing the Clinton “dirt” and emails? The Mueller filing does not say. But it seems possible, if not likely, that Papadopoulos did share this information with others in the campaign. Papadopoulos has maintained that he believes he did not inform the Trump campaign that the Russians possessed “dirt” on Clinton, but also has said, “I might have, but I have no recollection of doing so. I can’t guarantee.”
As the Mueller filing indicated, Papadopoulos was routinely and eagerly reporting his interactions with the Russians to his campaign bosses. If he did pass on this information, that would mean that Trump campaign officials had advance notice that the Kremlin was running dirty tricks against Clinton. This is important, because the Trump campaign and its top advisers (including Manafort and Donald Trump Jr.) denied Russian intervention in the election after news of the Democratic Party hack broke in June 2016 and after the stolen Democratic material was dumped before the Democratic convention in July 2016. Was the Trump campaign covering for the Russians?
The statement of offense in the Papadopoulos case also noted that between mid-June and mid-August 2016, Papadopoulos pursued an “off the record” meeting between the Trump campaign, “members of Putin’s office,” and the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It seems that Papadopoulos was trying to set up a back channel with Putin and the Kremlin while Russia was attacking the election—and after this assault had become a matter of public discussion in the United States. Who in the Trump campaign knew about this effort to reach out to Putin? Who was Papadopoulos in contact with on the Russian side? Is it possible that the Russians saw this move as a signal that the Trump campaign approved of its attempt to subvert the US election? Mueller’s filing leaves out many details and raises more questions about Papadopoulos’ communication with Russian emissaries than it answers.
In a sentencing memo regarding Michael Cohen’s cooperation with his investigation, Mueller noted that Trump’s former fixer, who pleaded guilty to campaign finance violations, tax and bank fraud, and lying to Congress, had been quite helpful. This filing stated that Cohen provided Mueller “with useful information concerning certain discrete Russia-related matters core to its investigation that he obtained by virtue of his regular contact with [Trump Organization] executives during the campaign.” The memo did not spell out these matters or identify the Trump Organization executives. This portion of Cohen’s cooperation might be connected to the Trump Tower project in Moscow that Trump was pursuing secretly while he was running for president. (It was a project Trump essentially lied about when he said he had no business interests in Russia.) But could these “Russia-related matters” (note the plural) include other activities? And do the referenced company executives (note the plural) include Trump Jr., Eric Trump, or Ivanka Trump? A final Mueller report could certainly provide more specifics about the Trump Tower venture and the involvement of his adult children—and tell the public about the other “Russian-related matters” involving the Trump Organization.
In many of the cases brought by Mueller, the same fundamental question hovers: Did Trump know about this? Michael Flynn, Trump’s former national security adviser, pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his conversations with the Russian ambassador to the United States during the transition in late 2016, in which Flynn tried to undercut sanctions that former President Barack Obama had imposed on Russia for its interventions in the election. Was Trump aware of these conversations? Did he direct Flynn to speak to the Russians? According to Mueller, Manafort colluded with an alleged Russian intelligence associate during the campaign. Did Trump know about that? In his recent public testimony to Congress, Cohen said he believed that Trump Jr. had told Trump about the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting, where top Trump aides met with a Russian emissary whom they were told would deliver them dirt on Clinton as part of a secret Kremlin effort to help the Trump campaign. Is this one of the “discrete Russia-related matters” referenced in Mueller’s sentencing memo for Cohen? Did Mueller discover whether Trump Jr. did tell his dad about this meeting? Cohen also testified that Stone told Trump in advance about the WikiLeaks dump of Democratic emails stolen by Russian hackers. Could this mean Trump is the person who, according to Mueller’s indictment of Stone, “directed” a senior Trump campaign official to contact Stone about other damaging information WikiLeaks might have on Clinton? (In written responses to questions from Mueller, Trump reportedly has stated that he did not know about the Trump Tower meeting in advance and never communicated with Stone about WikiLeaks. Does Mueller have evidence showing the president lied to his investigation?)
And then there is this nugget: In Mueller’s indictment of 12 Russian military intelligence officers for hacking and leaking Democratic emails, he noted that “on or about July 27, 2016, the Conspirators attempted after hours to spearphish for the first time email accounts at a domain hosted by a third-party provider and used by Clinton’s personal office. At or around the same time, they also targeted seventy-six email addresses at the domain for the Clinton Campaign.” Earlier that day, Trump had exclaimed at a rally, “Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing.” Nowadays, Trump claims he was merely joking. But this is another question Mueller’s investigation has prompted: Was it anything but a coincidence that hours after Trump made this request, Russian hackers for the first time attacked Clinton’s personal office and also went after email addresses at the Clinton campaign?
***
After almost two years on the job, there is much that Mueller can tell the American public that it doesn’t yet know. His mission, though, has been to investigate crimes and prosecute cases, not assemble a final and comprehensive report that reveals all he has unearthed related to the Trump-Russia scandal. But it only seems fair that Mueller at least answer those questions that his own investigation has yielded.

Bill Shine: ex-Fox News executive resigns as top Trump aide – as it happened | US news

Summary

  • Bill Shine, the White House’s deputy chief of staff for communications, abruptly resigned. Shine was previously an executive at Fox News, and will serve as an adviser to Donald Trump’s reelection campaign.
  • Trump contradicted his former fixer Michael Cohen’s sworn congressional testimony, tweeting that Cohen “directly asked” him for a pardon.
  • The House passed a major election reform bill, HR1, designed to limit the influence of wealthy donors and improve voting rights.
  • Senator Elizabeth Warren unveiled a proposal to break up the major tech companies that many critics argue have become monopolies.
  • The White House announced that it will host controversial Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro for a visit on 19 March. Bolsonaro recently made global headlines for tweeting a pornographic video.
That’s all for today. Happy International Women’s Day, and have a great weekend!

A bit of an update on the New Yorker’s report that Fox News killed the story of Donald Trump’s alleged affair with and hush money payments to Stormy Daniels, from investigative reporter Jane Mayer.
Nancy Erica Smith is the attorney for Diana Falzone, the former Fox News journalist who reportedly had proof of the affair and payments, but was blocked from publishing the story because Rupert Murdoch wanted Trump to win the election. Falzone signed a non-disclosure agreement with Fox News after suing the network and reaching a settlement.

A bit of fun/environmental horror for the Friday evening crowd...
South Carolina congressman Joe Cunningham fired off an air horn during a hearing on the danger of seismic testing to whales on Thursday, the Washington Post reports.
The stunt startled Trump administration official Chris Oliver, who had been testifying that seismic blasting does not threaten the endangered marine mammals, despite the fact that they rely on echolocation.
Cunningham pointed out to Oliver that the commercial air guns emit a sound that is 16,000 time louder than the air horn ever 10 seconds over the course of months.
“Usually I don’t like to toot my own (air) horn, but this needed to be done,” Cunningham tweeted Friday morning.

Trump to host Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro at White House

Donald Trump will host the president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, at the White House on 19 March, press secretary Sarah Sanders just announced.
The pair will discuss “how to build a more prosperous, secure and democratic Western Hemisphere,” according to the White House statement, as well as “opportunities for defense cooperation, pro-growth trade policies, combatting transnational crime and restoring democracy in Venezuela”.
Bolsonaro was elected last October, took office on 1 January, and is already dogged by scandal. The Guardian’s Latin America correspondent Tom Phillips has described him as “a far-right nationalist known for his hostility to minorities and his affection for authoritarian rule”.
A vehement homophobe, Bolsonaro shocked the world this week when he tweeted a pornographic video of a man being urinated on by another man.

Harris: Manafort sentencing evidence of "absolute unfairness" of judicial system

Senator Kamala Harris, a leading Democratic presidential candidate, weighed in on Paul Manafort’s controversial 47 month sentence while campaigning in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina today.
“We are looking at further evidence in America’s judicial system of absolute unfairness,” Harris said in video captured by CNN. “People who commit white collar crimes – they should be prepared to bring their tooth brush and spend as much time behind bars as anybody else.”
A career prosecutor, Harris has herself faced criticism for failing to prioritize white collar crime. While running for California attorney general, she supported a statewide law that would have penalized parents of chronically truant students with up to a year in county jail. But she has never explained why she declined to prosecute OneWest, a bank founded by Trump treasury secretary Steven Mnuchin, despite “evidence of widespread misconduct” in foreclosures uncovered by investigators while she was attorney general.

Hello! This is Julia Carrie Wong in San Francisco, here to see you through the end of the week on the politics live blog.
The president and first lady have already started their weekend. They just arrived at Mar-a-Lago after visiting parts of Alabama devastated by tornadoes last week.

Summary

Donald Trump’s top communications strategist has quit the White House. Bill Shine, a former Fox News executive, said he was looking forward to spending more time with his family. He will serve as an adviser to Trump’s reelection campaign. Trump said Shine had “done an outstanding job”.
Trump claimed Michael Cohen did ask him for a pardon, contradicting sworn testimony Cohen gave last week. “[Cohen] directly asked me for a pardon. I said NO. He lied again! He also badly wanted to work at the White House. He lied!,” Trump tweeted.
The House passed a sweeping election reform bill containing a range of anti-corruption and voting rights measures. HR1 includes a slew of measures to reduce the influence of wealthy donors and encourage people to the polls. Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell has said he won’t allow it to come to a vote.
The House oversight committee has reportedly obtained documents relating to Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump’s controversial security clearance. Axios reported that the documents had been leaked to the committee from the White House.

Just a reminder that we’re hosting live coverage of International Women’s Day.
A host of our reporters are covering the day as it unfolds across the globe from our offices in Sydney, London and New York. We’re aiming to mark the progress, record the anger, and hear the voices of women all over the world.
Earlier we heard that the US world champion women’s national soccer team has filed a gender discrimination lawsuit against the US Soccer Federation.
Players including Megan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan and Carli Lloyd are named in the lawsuit, which alleges the federation engaged in “institutionalized gender discrimination.” Players said the discrimination impacted their pay, coaching, and medical treatment.

Donald Trump has been visiting some of the areas in Alabama hit by tornadoes last week.
According to White House pool reports, Trump said responders were doing an “A plus job”.
“We’re gonna take care,” Trump told volunteers at the site of some of the damage. “FEMA is here.”
Trump said he had met with a family who lost 10 people from the storm.
“I’ve never seen anything like it,” Trump said.
Shortly after speaking Trump took the time to retweet five posts from Paul Sperry, author of Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret Underworld That’s Conspiring to Islamize America.

Donald Trump watched this year’s SuperBowl with the founder of a spa where New England Patriot’s owner Robert Kraft later allegedly paid for oral sexthe Miami Herald has discovered.
The Herald posted a photo showing Trump alongside Li Yang during the February 3 SuperBowl. Yang founded Tokyo Day Spas, which is where Kraft allegedly solicited sex acts on two different occasions.
Police say they have video of the acts being administered.
The photo was apparently taken at a viewing party at Trump’s West Palm Beach country club. There is no suggestion that Yang and Trump have a relationship.
Kraft is a supporter of Trump and donated to his campaign. Trump claims to be friends with Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. Brady’s wife, Gisele Bundchen, has denied it.
