Nancy Pelosi Leans Into Collusion After Roger Stone Indictment

Fresh off her decisive victory over President Donald Trump in the fight to end the longest government shutdown in US history, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi released a scathing statement on the other damning news of the day: the arrest of the president’s longtime adviser Roger Stone.
“The indictment of Roger Stone makes clear that there was a deliberate, coordinated attempt by top Trump campaign officials to influence the 2016 election and subvert the will of the American people,” Pelosi said in a statement late Friday.
“It is staggering that the President has chosen to surround himself with people who violated the integrity of our democracy and lied to the FBI and Congress about it.”
Pelosi cited Trump’s ongoing efforts to thwart the special counsel’s investigation, actions the top Democrat said forced the question of what damaging or compromising information Russian President Vladimir Putin may have against the president. “What does Putin have on the President, politically, personally or financially?” Pelosi continued. “Why has the Trump Administration continued to discuss pulling the U.S. out of NATO, which would be a massive victory for Putin?”
The statement marked some of the strongest language Pelosi has used against Trump in regards to the Russia investigation, as the special counsel continues to indict more of the president’s associates
On Saturday, Trump commented on Stone’s arrest by taking aim at his usual targets: James Comey and Hillary Clinton.

Just Security: How Did Roger Stone Know What the President Told Mueller?

A question is circulating on Twitter and cable news shows: How does Roger Stone know what Donald Trump told the special counsel in the President’s written responses to Bob Mueller?
There’s a likely simple—and non-nefarious—answer to the question. But that answer may also raise legal trouble for President Donald Trump that’s missing from the conversation.
The basis for the question is a statement by Stone on Tucker Carlson’s show last night. Stone said:
“They [CNN and MSNBC] act as if Stone acted as the conduit between the Trump Campaign and WikiLeaks or between Donald Trump and WikiLeaks. When the President answered the written interrogatories he correctly and honestly said, ‘Roger Stone and I never discussed this,’ and we never did.” (emphasis added).
Speculation is rampant that the President or his team privately communicated Trump’s answers to Stone.
But there’s a more innocent explanation missing. Stone can simply say he learned of the President’s response from a CNN story on November 29, 2018, which reported what Trump told Mueller. CNN stated:
“President Donald Trump told special counsel Robert Mueller in writing that Roger Stone did not tell him about WikiLeaks ….”
“Stone’s denial matches with what Trump told Mueller: that the two never spoke about WikiLeaks.”
But that answer may make matters worse for the President in other respects.
First, the President may have committed perjury (or made an intentional false statement) in his response to the Special Counsel by denying that he and Stone communicated about WikiLeaks. It is hard to fathom that the two men did not discuss Stone’s information on WikiLeaks given the detailed revelations in Stone’s indictment about his communications with senior Trump Campaign officials and his work on behalf of the Campaign in liaising with WikiLeaks. As Chris Cuomo said to Stone on Friday night, “he [President Trump] has known you the longest, OK. He has got the deepest relationship with you … Why would people believe that his oldest most trusted adviser was doing something like this for him at the same time that he kept talking up WikiLeaks and yet he knew nothing about it?” Mueller’s draft statement of offense for Jerome Corsi also adds to the picture. That document states that Corsi “understood [Stone] to be in regular contact with senior members of the Trump Campaign, including with then-candidate Donald J. Trump” when Stone “asked Corsi to get in touch with [Wikileaks] about materials it possessed relevant to the presidential campaign.”
Second, given the multitude of Stone’s communications with senior Trump Campaign officials, if he did not discuss the issue with the candidate despite all of his conversations with Trump, it may be even more incriminating. Were they trying to shield the President because they knew these communications and Stone’s work was illegal or illegitimate?
A safe bet is that Trump was in the loop.
Finally, who leaked this specific content in Trump’s written responses to Mueller and why? That’s hard to know, but it could be a way for Trump or his team to communicate to other witnesses to hold the same line. Indeed, this may be a pattern among Trump associates: to tell their lies in public as a method to signal to others. As Andy Wright and I wrote back in December, the Special Counsel’s sentencing documents for Michael Cohen suggested, “Mueller’s theory of the case recognizes that public statements are methods of communication with other witnesses.”

Palmer Report: We can now draw a straight line to Donald Trump Jr’s arrest

Special Counsel Robert Mueller indicted and arrested Roger Stone this week, after having had a grand jury going against him for at least nine months. No one was surprised to see Stone finally get popped. But the surprise was what was specifically stated in the Stone indictment, and what the source material was for five of the seven charges involved. The upshot: Donald Trump Jr might want to get his affairs in order.

The Roger Stone indictment represents a mere fraction of the Stone-related crimes that Robert Mueller had been presenting to the grand jury all this time, based on what various witnesses have been blabbing to the media since early 2018. For instance, Mueller has been investigating Stone’s involvement in everything from an alleged Sheriff bribery scheme in Florida, to whatever the deal is with him and a former prostitution ring leader. None of that was in the indictment, so we have to assume it’ll be added later. For now, most of the charges against Stone came straight from Stone’s own prior words.

Robert Mueller cited Roger Stone’s prior testimony to the House Intelligence Committee as the basis for the majority of the felony charges listed in this indictment. When Donald Trump’s puppet Devin Nunes was the committee chair, he had Stone and others come in and testify that they’d done nothing wrong, so he could issue a report that “cleared” everyone in Trump’s orbit. When Adam Schiff became chair, he vowed to give all of those transcripts to Mueller. Sure enough, he’s clearly done that. And this brings us to Donald Trump Jr.

Various Democrats on the House Intel Committee have publicly accused Donald Trump Jr of having committed perjury during his prior testimony to the committee. Now we know that Robert Mueller has that transcript as well. Mueller decided to quickly indict and arrest Roger Stone based primarily on the transcript, even though his overall case against Stone wasn’t ready yet. There is every reason to expect Mueller to do the same to Trump Jr.

We wouldn’t dare try to guess an exact timeframe for Donald Trump Jr’s indictment and arrest. But considering that Robert Mueller suddenly decided to immediately move on Roger Stone this week, using the bare minimum to get him into handcuffs, don’t be shocked if the same thing happens to Junior very, very soon.

One more thing to keep in mind: grand jury proceedings are supposed to be secret. The only reason we’ve known about so many details of the Roger Stone grand jury in real time is that so many of the witnesses against him have been his own larger-than-life associates, who have promptly blabbed to the media. In a normal grand jury arena, nothing would leak, and the public would have no idea someone is even being targeted until the indictment is unsealed. So yes, Mueller could already be knee-deep in grand jury proceedings against Trump Jr or anyone else, without us hearing a peep about it, and he could shock us with abrupt arrests at any time.

Palmer Report: The real reason Robert Mueller suddenly hurried up and nabbed Roger Stone, after months of waiting

Michael_Novakhov shared this story from 1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites).

On Friday morning, Special Counsel Robert Mueller had the FBI arrest Roger Stone. Mueller has had a grand jury going against Stone for the better part of a year, and there seemed to be no hurry to nab him. But based on the details that have surfaced, it very much appears that Mueller decided within the past few days that he needed to move on Stone as quickly as possible. In other words, something suddenly changed.

The details that have surfaced from the grand jury strongly suggest that Robert Mueller had Roger Stone indicted on Thursday, and then had him arrested the next morning. That’s a lot of haste, considering Mueller had previously been content to let the grand jury carry on against Stone for as long as necessary. Throw in the fact that the seven charges in the indictment didn’t include any of the numerous other aspects of Stone’s life that Mueller was investigating, and it’s clear that the case against Stone is nowhere near complete – yet Mueller suddenly decided to bust Stone anyway.

There is no evidence that Roger Stone was planning to flee, or anything like that. In fact this change of plans on Mueller’s part appears to have nothing to do with Stone. The indictment goes out of its way to spell out that a senior Donald Trump campaign official (separately identified as Steve Bannon), instructed Stone to conspire with WikiLeaks, and that Bannon himself was instructed to make this happen by someone even higher up. Therein lies the key; Bannon only reported to Donald Trump and, to some extent, Donald Trump Jr.

In other words, Roger Stone is just a pawn in all this. Robert Mueller decided to hurry up and nab Stone because he wanted to formally establish the criminal conspiracy that Stone played a part in, so he can charge other people involved in it. Why right now? Why not last week, or next month? Mueller is clearly at a stage where he’s about to move on a bigger fish in the Stone-WikiLeaks conspiracy. It almost has to be Bannon, Trump, Trump Jr, Julian Assange, or some combination of the above.
