German Police Arrest 11 People Suspected of Planning Terrorist Attack

(FRANKFURT, Germany) — German law enforcement officials say 11 people were arrested in western Germany on suspicion of planning an Islamic extremist terror attack but were then ordered released after no weapons or explosives were found during searches.
The dpa news agency reported the suspects were taken into custody on Friday and Saturday in the towns of Essen, Duesseldorf, Wuppertal, Moenchengladbach, Duisburg and Ulm, citing a spokesman for prosecutors in Duesseldorf.
The prosecutors’ spokesman was quoted as saying Saturday that the group was suspected of having ties to Islamic State militants, either as sympathizers or a splinter group, and of planning a “serious act of violent subversion,” although there was no indication of a specific target.
The prosecutor’s office said the suspects were ordered released but the investigation would continue.
Officials said one suspect was from Tajikistan but provided no information about the nationalities of the others. Officials originally said 10 suspects but later updated it to 11.

A fire broke out at a market in Bangladesh's capital city Dhaka in the early hours of Saturday, March 30, just two days after at least 25 people were killed in a high-rise blaze elsewhere in the city.
The fire raged for two and half hours — damaging 150 stores in the Gulshan market — as well as some in a nearby shopping center, before it was brought under control, local media said. No casualties were reported, and the cause of the fire was not immediately known.(Reuters)

As the British Parliament continues to try on how the UK will withdraw from the EU, manufacturers and businesses are looking to get an idea of how Brexit will affect trade. Brexit could slow down the import and export of goods, which poses a major business risk for companies that transport fresh produce.

Trump, Russia, and the collapse of the collusion narrative | The Listening Post (Full)

From: AlJazeeraEnglish

On the Listening Post this week: After all the collusion hysteria, mainstream media in the United States reflect on their role in promoting the conspiracy theory. Plus, revisiting Ethiopia's media scene, one year on.
The collapse of the Russiagate collusion narrative
It read like a spy movie - and had people gripped. Russiagate, the theory that Donald Trump colluded with Vladimir Putin to hijack the 2016 US presidential elections, was a story that was too big to fail.
But that's what happened, and certain US news outlets now have some questions to answer because the Mueller report has found no smoking gun.
Having sold Americans the seductive and conspiratorial notion that the man in the oval office was a compromised foreign agent, now comes a moment of reckoning for the US media.
As for Trump himself, after two years of accusing the media of a witch-hunt - calling them the enemy of the people - this story has handed him a 2020 election gift like no other.

Promises promises: Ethiopia's presidential press pledge one year on
A year ago, after years of social unrest, East Africa's most populous country - Ethiopia - ushered in a new political dawn with the appointment of Abiy Ahmed, a representative of the country's largest ethnic group, the Oromos.
The reforms came thick and fast - and that included the media: dozens of news websites appeared, more than 20 new media publications, numerous journalists, jailed and stifled under Abiy's predecessors freed.
Last year, we spoke with four journalists of different media backgrounds about a year marked out in Ethiopia's history as one of those rare celebratory stories.
But what happens when the honeymoon period fades?
Flo Phillips revisited the story nine months later to see if Abiy's promises have been kept.
