Today is the big turning point in Donald Trump's downfall

Having Donald Trump as our president is a protracted test of mental health and stifling the collapse of one’s soul, but it gives me great pleasure to say that today is different.
For the second time this week, a federal judge sided with the House of Representatives’ request for some of Trump’s financial records, namely records from Capital One and the ever-infamous financial Hotel California that is Deutsche Bank. On top of this, the New York Times reported that an anti-money laundering specialist at Deutsche Bank found suspicious activity in Trump and Kushner accounts, with some Kushner money ending up in the accounts of Russians. Not a great testament to his self-purported innocence.

The court battles will continue before the House gets any of the above from the banks, but it’s my confident estimation that the courts won’t budge on the judges’ rulings from this week; the law is simply not on Trump’s side. We are headed to the inevitable release of Trump’s dirty financial secrets, and considering he just ran out of roadblocks, it looks like it’ll happen sooner than many of us anticipated. Again, bad day for Trump. And then there’s Nancy Pelosi.

Today, in case you missed it, Nancy Pelosi looked into a television camera and told the world that Donald Trump is engaged in a cover-up. Nancy Pelosi, or “Nancy,” as she is known to Trump, has a history of being even-keeled, staid, and calculating. She only says things like this when she’s absolutely certain. If she’s speaking specifically in reference to evidence gathered of a cover-up by Trump, which would almost certainly include a buffet of obstruction of justice, then it’s quite simply game over. Remember: the cover-up was the nail in Nixon’s presidential coffin.

None of this is even to take into consideration that former White House counsel Don McGahn is poised to be held in contempt of Congress with Steve Mnuchin (he doesn’t like being called “Steve”) right behind him. An aside; did you know Stevie is a racist and a sexist?

Donald Trump is falling, and like the babbling tangerine Goliath that he is, he’s falling hard. His collapse being slow and painful was a foregone conclusion; we knew from the start of this agonizing saga that he wouldn’t go easy. But we’re finally here in the midst of his hubristic end, and we finally get to watch him, not us, be tested – something at which, if we were to ever see his school transcripts, we would be able to confirm he isn’t especially good.

Democracy thrives in snarkiness

Why 'Putin's personal army' chief visited Turkey

The unannounced visit to Turkey of the chief of the Russian National Guard — an internal security establishment also known as Vladimir Putin’s personal army — will undoubtedly be given hard scrutiny by Western capitals amid increasing criticism of Turkey’s drift away from its NATO allies.
Viktor Zolotov, the head of the Russian National Guard, Rosgvardiya, a security unit that oversees anti-riot police and SWAT teams, paid a surprise visit to the capital, Ankara, from May 13-18 with a “heavily loaded” agenda, Turkish security sources told Al-Monitor. Although his Russian delegation's carefully crafted schedule didn't include any direct contact with the Turkish army, NATO's second largest, the visit heralds further military cooperation between Russia and Turkey.
The delegation of 11 officials led by Zolotov held talks with several Turkish security officials, the sources told Al-Monitor.
Zolotov, whose special force of 200,000 provides policing and military capabilities, is an influential name when it comes to Russia’s security policies. As a close friend of Putin, Zolotov recently made headlines in Russia by ridiculing the country’s opposition leader Alexei Navalny by challenging him to a duel.
Also read
Zolotov’s visit wasn’t announced prior to his arrival and was low profile for the most part. The Turkish news media said the goal of the visit was information sharing between the Russian National Guard and Turkish gendarmerie forces. Accordingly, Russians wanted to learned the general structure of the Turkish Gendarmerie Command and its operations and to work toward beneficial sharing of informationbetween two states that have close historical and cultural ties. As Al-Monitor reported in 2017, the Turkish Gendarmerie Command has been increasingly interested in Asia.
Turkey’s pro-Russian newspaper Aydinlik reported that Zolotov’s visit wasn’t limited to information sharing and that concrete steps were taken during the visit for institutional cooperation between Russian and Turkish interior security units.
Zolotov was accompanied by Turkey’s Gendarmerie Commander Arif Cetin throughout his visit. The two also signed a memorandum of understanding that covers cooperation in public order, public security, protection of state facilities, combating extremism and sharing intelligence about cross-border organized crime. The cooperation framework also foresees organizing joint exercises, trainings for the military and civilian personnel of Rosgvardia and the Turkish gendarmerie forces.
The two organizations have many common functions. In Russia, Rosgvardiya is responsible for protecting power plants, bridges, dams, ports, tunnels and other critical infrastructure. It is also tasked with protecting lives and properties of key officials. International news media frequently report that Rostgvardiya has very close relations with some private paramilitary companies and even owns some of them.
Given that Rosgvardiya, with its extreme influence over private security companies, is tasked with special missions such as restraining societal unrest, suppressing the opposition against the Putin administration, protecting critical facilities and persons, it is important for it to engage in cooperative activities in Turkey. For example, it could offer security services for the Akkuyu nuclear power plant, which is being constructed by Russia's State Atomic Energy Corp., and the Turkstream natural gas pipeline; Rosgvardiya also could engage in training and exercises with its Turkish partner to ensure public order. Rosgvardiya’s military and personnel could come to Turkey for medical care, training, exercise and even vacations without any restrictions. It could be the trainer, coordinator and even partner of private security firms in Turkey. Of course this extent of cooperation would include sharing intelligence on terror organizations and organized crime.
Zolotov’s contacts were limited to the Interior Ministry’s Gendarmerie Command and the coast guard. This means that Zolotov didn’t hold any direct contact with the Turkish army, which is a NATO element. However, it is worth remembering that the gendarmerie and the coast guard work in an integrated way with the Turkish military in combating terror in southeast Turkey and in patrolling the seas. Thus, in a way, Rosgvardiya will be in touch with the Turkish military and even cooperate with it.
It’s as yet unclear whether the Turkish military will join this honeymoon period between the Turkish Gendarmerie Command and Rosgvardiya. Another important question is whether Russian security private firms affiliated with Rosgvardiya will be given access to the Turkish private security sector. Above all, what will be the effects of the cooperation with Rosgvardiya on the institutional identify of the Turkish security sector’s established pro-Western strategic culture?
No doubt, experts in Western capitals and at NATO have already begun discussing the answer to these questions by scrutinizing Zolotov’s visit.

Vladimir Putin's rumoured lover, 36, gives birth to twins in guarded clinic, Russian reports claim

Alina Kabaeva, 36, is an Olympic gold medal-winning gymnast and reportedly the Russian President's lover
Reports in Moscow claim that glamorous ex-gymnast Alina Kabaeva - rumoured to be Vladimir Putin's long-time partner - recently gave birth to twins.
There has been no confirmation from the Olympic gold medal winner and the Kremlin never discusses the president's private life with the state-run media in Russia obediently following suit.
A source close to 36-year-old Kabaeva was quoted saying: 'We do not comment on the rumours.'
The entire VIP fourth floor at the Kulakov Research Centre for Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Perinatology was cleared earlier this month to accommodate the former gymnast and MP, say reports.
One major newspaper Moskovsky Komsomolets carried the story on its website only to suddenly delete it and wipe all mentions of the claims, including from the internet cache.
But the reports have persisted with one outlet dni.ru running the headline: 'Alina Kabaeva gave birth to twins and disappeared.'
Separately, Sergei Kanev, an investigative journalist close to the Russian intelligence services, posting that she gave birth to twin boys by Caesarean.

He was informed that 'countless' Federal Protective Service officers were brought in and 'sniffed every corner' of the maternity hospital before her arrival.
'Half of the medical team was kicked out of the delivery ward,' he said, citing his own source.
'A famous doctor from Italy was the key to helping the birth with the assistance of academician Gennady Sukhikh, director of the medical centre.
'The mother was delivered of two boys. However, a C-section had to be performed.'
He did not name the Italian doctor.
There has been no mention of the ex-gymnast's alleged twins in popular news outlets Life and REN TV which are controlled by Kabaeva, who now heads TV and newspaper giant National Media Group.

The 'story' was originally revealed as an exclusive by showbiz news website Dom2Life owned by a judo-loving tycoon Alexander Karmanov on 12 May, Kabaeva's 36th birthday.
Intriguingly, Russian researchers say Karmanov is close to oligarch Arkady Rotenburg, one of Putin's oldest friends, and his former judo sparring partner.
The report about her giving birth to twins follows a series of 'stories' about Kabaeva - often uncomplimentary - on obscure Russian-language websites in recent months.
One media analyst commented: 'There seems to be a campaign against her but it is not clear who is behind this.'
One theory is that many reports originate in Ukraine which has had icy relations with Russia since Putin annexed Crimea in 2014.

But the twins report does not fit this theory.
Despite claims that Kabaeva is Russia's secret first lady and that she has been close to divorced Putin for more than a decade, she seldom makes public appearances.
She has not been seen in public since October last year when she defended her PhD thesis into training pre-school children in rhythmic gymnastics.
Unusually she was not seen on her birthday - 12 May - but gymnasts she mentors sent her a message wishing her 'happiness, health and success in your private life'.
Her close confidante ex-coach Irina Viner, wife of billionaire Alisher Usmanov, a former shareholder at Arsenal FC, sent her own video message to 'the beautiful, intelligent, kind, decent, caring and vivacious woman you are' hoping 'your stunning angelic Hollywood smile always shines on your face'

In recent years Kabaeva has repeatedly denied she has children, but this has not stopped whispering in Moscow that she has a hidden family with Putin.
A fact-checking media watchdog claimed the recent Moscow birth was to another woman called Kabaeva - and not the gymnast.
However, social media accounts of this other woman suggest she has not yet given birth.
In other reports one outlet Vista News claimed that Kabaeva in January flew to Switzerland 'in a rush' with a three year old boy she allegedly shares with Putin.
This referred to unconfirmed reports in 2015 that she had given birth in a Swiss clinic.
Other reports frequently allege Kabaeva - like Putin - has undergone facelifts and other plastic surgery.
There are also claims she uses private jets and has a fleet of Maybach limousines at her disposal along with a large security retinue.

Last year a journalist from Life News - part of Kabaeva's media empire - demanded of 66-year-old divorcee Putin at his annual televised press conference in Moscow: 'When will you get married? And with whom?'
Putin smiled and replied: 'As a decent person I will have to do this sooner or later.'
One journalist Dmitry Kolezev - noting Kabaeva's link to Life - said: 'So quite literally this was a question from Alina. Beautifully done.'
Putin divorced former wife Lyudmila in 2014 after a joint appearance to announce their split.
Since then Kabaeva has appeared several times wearing what seems to be a wedding ring leading to social media memes showing their marriage.
The question of Putin's love life is usually seen as taboo in Russia.
